Below, you will find the synopsis for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 6. Titled “Detoured On Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell” – which is inspired by a line Caroline says to Matt in 1×17 (“Let the Right One In”), right before her car gets stuck in the mud and she accidentally unearths Vicki Donovan’s body – this installment was written by Alan McElroy and directed by Paul Wesley, and features Stefan Salvatore making an “unexpected sacrifice.” Not only that, but the siren sisters will also set their sights on Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, who, if you recall, displayed an adverse reaction to the tuning fork (a.k.a. the “devil’s pitchfork”) used to incapacitate Sybil. When the tiny siphoners dropped it in episode 8×02, a high-pitched sound rang out – leaving them hunched over in pain and their father, Alaric, so alarmed that he desperately turned to Sybil for answers.

When her children become the focus of the Siren’s latest plan, Caroline (Candice King) takes drastic measures to ensure nothing gets in the way of keeping her family safe. In a race against the clock, Stefan (Paul Wesley) pledges to do everything he can to save the twins, while tensions between Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline boil over, leading them to face some harsh realities about the future of their family. Meanwhile, when Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself unable to fight off Sybil’s (guest star Nathalie Kelley) latest move, Stefan dives into his subconscious and along the way, sets off a chain of events that leaves him faced with a life-changing decision. Kat Graham and Zach Roerig also star. Paul Wesley directed the episode written by Alan McElroy (#806). Original airdate 12/2/2016.
What, exactly, do you think this “sacrifice” entails – and will there be significant consequences? Why did the Saltzman twins react to the ancient artifact in this way? Share your thoughts and theories in a comment below!
